Nevada Gardens

The impressive grounds of this resort features a lake filled with thousands of fountains and gardens whose floral displays change every month. gardens and the red tile roofs of Tuscan villas line the water's edge. A botanical conservatory displays exotic plants and flowers such as orchids, lilies and hyacinth.

This visitor center includes a botanical garden displaying local desert trees, shrubs, and cacti.

 Clark County Heritage Museum: 1830 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, NV 89015 (702)455-7955.
The museum includes historic homes, a ghost town, and a half-mile nature trail.

 Elko County Rose Garden:  6th and Pine, Elko, NV 89801.
Begun in 2000 with 73 Dr. Buck roses of 63 varieties, this garden was created as an ever-chainging, staged, community garden to collect winter hardy, easy care roses.
 

 Ethel M Chocolate Factory and Cactus Garden: 2 Cactus Drive, Henderson, NV 98014 (702)433-2500.

Gardens are often combined with historical houses or museums, but this felicitous pairing is a gourmet chocolates factory. When you've finished the tour, you still have the pleasure of a 4 acre Cactus Botanical Garden with 300 varieties of cacti, succulents and drought-resistant ornamentals in a naturalistic setting with rookeries and raised beds.

An 8 acre botanical garden showcases a wide range of desert landscapes and demonstrate native and non-native desert plant life with interpretive stations and hands-on activities.  A Watering Can Theater teaches irrigation, while an Enabling Garden demonstrates gardening techniques for people with physical challenges.

This 3 block public plaza overlooking the Truckee River features native Nevada wildlife reliefs, 8 fountains and landscaping.

 Reno Municipal Rose Garden: Idlewild Park, 2055 Idlewild Drive, Reno, NV 89509 (775)334-2270.
This one acre Rose Garden, an All America Rose Selections accredited garden, features 200 varieties of roses and over 1,750 total roses.

 Southern Nevada Zoological-Botanical Park: 1775 N. Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89106-1020 (702)647-4685.
This zoo's mission is to educate the public about endangered species and habitat protection. In addition to the varied animals (from Barbery Apes to wallabies), the zoo displays a collection of endangered cycads and rare bamboos.

 University of Nevada-Las Vegas Arboretum and Xeric Garden: 4505 Maryland Parkway, Box 451013, Las Vegas, NV 89154 (702)895-0952.
The Arboretum (begin tour at John Wright Hall) includes the entire 335 acre campus of which 80 acres are landscaped with trees, shrubs, and turf, making it the Emerald in the Desert. A two acre Xeric Garden (at the entrance to the Marjorie Barrick Museum) displays plants from arid regions around the world.

 The Reno Campus, designated an Arboretum by the Nevada Legislature, is a living collection plants, trees, shrubs, flowers, ornamentals and native flora with over 60 genera and 200 species.  Special areas include the Cherry Blossom Garden, the Benson Gardens, the Main Quad, Albert E. Hilliard Foliage Quad, Jimmie's Garden, the Fleischmann Agriculture Quad, the Merriam A. Brown Rose Garden, the Hettich Garden, and Manzanita Lake.
