- Airfield, Dublin’s only working urban farm, is a 35
acre estate with 20 acres of farmland. The striking garden
showcases a collection of cacti and succulent plants. A Victorian walled garden
with espaliered fruit trees has a series of garden rooms edged with box or hornbeam and a formal rose garden, a small ornamental pond, side borders and
island beds. Other areas include a formal front lawn, a woodland garden
with spring flowers and over 100,000 bulbs, a Yew Border, edged with old Irish yews, a lush tropical border,
the Green Fingers Garden for young gardeners, a culinary and medicinal herb garden,
and a vegetable garden. The gardens are worked sustainably, with no
artificial pesticides or fertilizers, using only compost and manure from
the farm.

- Situated in a remarkable 200 acre estate within the city, this historic house and gardens have been recently restored.
A 4.5 acre Walled Garden is a Regency ornamental garden with an extensive display of period plants
ranging from herbaceous borders to shrub beds. Structures include the Head Gardener's house,
orangery, arbor and water features. A kitchen garden displays a collection of Regency fruit trees, vegetables and
bothys (simple shelters).
National Botanic Gardens:

- Founded by the Royal Dublin Society in 1795, this
19.5 hectare garden on the south bank of the Tolka, displays a wealth of
plants, including an arboretum, sensory garden, rose garden, Chinese
slope, rock garden and burren area, large pond, sculpture, extensive herbaceous borders, student garden and annual display of decorative plants including a rare example of Victorian carpet bedding. The marvelous Glasshouses include the beautifully restored Curvilinear Range (a long row of glass houses with collections
from the mountains of South-East Asia, Tender Gymnosperms including some cycads,
and plants from the southern hemisphere including Australia, South
Africa and South America),
the Great Palm House, the Alpine House, the Flowering House (with cacti
and succulents), the Orchid House, the Victoria
water lily house, the Fern House and the Teak House (with floral

resource on the flora of Ireland.

- This 6 acre garden, surrounding a Regency Villa, is of more recent origins, developed over
the last 40 years. It showcases a large collection of perennial plants, roses and lilies, many of them rare, a collection
of crocasmia and a strain of lobelias, a spring garden with snowdrops, irises, hellebores, erythroniums, auriculas, and paeonies, and a
developing arboretum.

- Lord Milo Talbot's collection of over 5,000 species of plants, with
an emphasis on
Southern Hemisphere shrubbery, particularly Australasian and Chilean species,

- The
60 acre park stretching parallel along the south bank of the River Liffey,
contains a War Memorial designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens commemorating the 49,000 Irish Soldiers who died in the First World War. At either end
of the circular sunken rose garden are two pairs of granite "Bookrooms" which hold the names of those who died.
