area showcases 14 acres of gardens and arboretum with one of the best and most unusual collections of shrubs and trees in Ireland.
Paths meander through the eight acre garden with surprises and vistas around every corner. The existing arboretum is currently

castellated follies, a romantic island fortress and temple on the 8 acre lake, and a shell-lined tower,

It embodies the 18th century concept of a 'Ferme Ornée' garden with
a pastoral landscape ornamented by buildings, statutary, water
features and picturesque walks. A Walled Garden has been restored to traditional 18th century formal
design with wide perennial borders, box hedging, water features, ornamental herb and vegetable gardens.
The famous Foxes Earthy folly was a refuge for an 18th Century lessee who expected to be reincarnated as a fox.
The Greek concept of Arcadia suggests a harmony with nature.

- This 18th Century walled garden adjoining Lodge Park, a Palladian house of 1773,
features old brick faced walls. The garden is divided into area with a
long box-edged axis path and rows of clipped yew trees. Beds
include a south facing shrub border, a north facing spring border,
a double herbaceous border, various colored gardens, a vegetable area, a decorative salad garden with a walkway of sweet peas,
a lawn with peony borders, a white garden, and a rose garden. The garden
showcases a large collection of rare and unusual plants.
A musem of steam engines is located on the grounds.
