- Designed in the fashion of a Continental "palazzo" with the house, garden and site
an integral unit, the grounds include seven terraces with the house sitting on the third terrace. A parterre facing south
surrounding a wisteria circle which again surrounds a fountain was also created.
From there rise the famous Hundred Steps, a monumental staircase built of local stone, set amidst azaleas and rhododendron.

to a sea estuary were inspired by a Rousseau painting. The gardens

- This unusual garden, based on the ChiRho page from the Book of Kells
(an abbreviated monogram in Greek for the name of Christ) features a number of ponds.
Each pond showcases a fountain clock and tells a different aspect of time.
One pond contains two entwined
serpents which spout water as they rotate to the numerals
on the circumference, thereby telling the time in minutes and hours. Another pond contains a large circular
ceramic tablet with four illuminated evangelists.
